Happy Halloween! I have been out of pocket for most the month traveling. I was in Seattle with one of my best friends on a girl’s trip and then in New Orleans for a Bachelorette Party. Both cities were very different but equally fun. With all the travel it felt like October flew by! I can’t believe Halloween is tomorrow. What is everyone dressing up as? I am going with my best friend and her daughter as a lion tamer (they are a ring master and trapeze artist).

I have been seeing some really cool Halloween makeup looks on Instagram. I have to go to a wedding welcome party immediately after trick or treating, so I won’t be going super crazy with my makeup but wanted to share some fun, easy things you can do with your makeup to get a little more out of the box this Halloween.

All That Glitters…

If Taylor Swift has showed us anything this fall it’s that glitter is always a good idea. Who else loved her cute glitter freckles that she wore to the Chiefs game a couple weeks ago? Glitter is an easy addition to any Halloween look and can go on your chest, cheeks, or eyes for a fun Halloween look.

The glitter freckles, linked here, are super easy to apply. They kind of work like a temporary tattoo. For a less “placed” glitter look, ColourPop cosmetics makes body glitter that comes off easily and can go on your body or face ( just avoid your eyes).

I don’t think it’s necessary to spend money on a luxury makeup brand for a once a year Halloween look. I love playing around with chrome eyeshadow, and while some more expensive brands make great liquid chrome eyeshadow (like Danessa Myricks), unless you plan on wearing it regularly drug store makeup works just fine. ColourPop makes a great chrome eyeshadow that comes in a variety of fun shades. Linked here, I used the Glaze shade for my Bachelorette and it lasted all night.

Liquid eyeshadow is growing on me. I realized I wasn’t applying it effectively for the longest time. Now that I know how to properly put it on, I love it for a more dramatic eye look. Tip: Apply it with a soft eye shadow brush instead of putting the applicator directly on your eye lid. It goes on much less aggressively and goes on more evenly.

Cat Eye Season

I love a cat eye any time of year (another nod to T-Swift for this), but especially at Halloween. It can be a little hard to master! I’m listing my tips & tricks here:

Whether you have a hooded eye or not, this image shows the direction of the line for outlining. Make sure the lines are straight. Fill in the empty spaces.

  1. Outline your eye first.
    • Use a pencil eyeliner in black or brown (any will do!) and do an outline first. The outline is only for half your eye, from the center and out away from your nose. Start with the lower lid and make a straight line from the middle out. If you want to go back in and hit your water line you can do that after. Then repeat this step on the top lid. The goal is to have both lines connect. For a more dramatic cat eye you might want to extend the line out farther than normal, but I usually try to go to the end of my brow line.
    • It is important that both lines are straight out from the center. Make sure you look straight ahead when doing this, otherwise the lines won’t match up.
    • Once both lines are connected, fill in the open parts of your eye with the pencil. Depending on if you have a hooded eye or not you might not have that much space to fill-in.
  2. Add in your eye shadow. For a more dramatic cat eye you probably don’t want super heavy eye shadow because it’s going to take away from the wing. Put your eyeshadow on your whole lid, including the parts that are already filled with your eyeliner (on the top lid).
  3. Go back through with a liquid or gel eyeliner.
    • I personally prefer liquid eyeliner for a cat eye. My favorite is from Stila. Go over what you originally outlined on the top and bottom. If you want to fill in the line on the rest of your eye, do so now.
  4. For an extra smoky look I like to go back through with a small eyeshadow detail brush and add in some black shadow on the water line of the lower lid and a little on the top lid.
  5. Extra Credit:
    • Take a white pencil and outline the inside corner of your eye to make your eyes pop!

Vamp Red Lip!

Last on my Halloween makeup must haves is a bold, red lip (although this is my go-to always). There are so many red lipsticks and glosses I absolutely love. For an extra volume look, I go just below my lip line with my lip liner. I use MAC lip liner in Ruby Woo.

For lip color my fav red for Halloween is Fenty’s Gloss Bomb Stix in The MVP. I love that this lipstick has an added shine to it. For drugstore options, I love Maybelline’s Super Stay Vinyl Ink in either Wicked or Royal. The Royal shade is more of a blood red which is perfect for a Halloween Vampire look.

It’s the Great Pumpkin!

Those are my three essentials for fun, Halloween makeup. Obviously, there is so much more you can do in terms of creativity; think fun face art, stickers, and crazier eye makeup. If you’re like me, you probably need something I little more approachable (I also can’t draw to save my life lol!) Glitter, a fun eye, and a hot lip are three easy things you can do to make your makeup a little different for Halloween.

Speaking of spooky season, what is everyone’s fav candy/movie combo? I am not a huge scary movie person but I love “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” paired with Reese’s pumpkins! Unpopular opinion, but I also love candy corn. Anyone else with me?

Hope everyone has a fun & safe Halloween. Come back to check out my November Mood Board next week!
